Joey Smith is proud to be a faculty member at SRJC, teaching classes on Sustainable Agriculture, Ecology, and Natural Resource Management since 2014. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz, and is particularly interested in agroecology and sustainable food systems. He believes in using a student-centered approach, community-engaged curriculum, and experiential education to increase access to the subjects he teaches.
In addition to teaching, Joey manages the organic vegetable farm he founded in 2011, building soil and biodiversity while selling produce directly to customers through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Program.
Joey’ interests that inform his teaching include: birding, travel, reading poetry, hiking, enrolling in community college classes, visiting local community gardens and farms, exploring creeks with his nephews, and staying curious.
