Located in the heart of one of the most beautiful and productive agricultural areas in the nation, it is only natural for SRJC's Agriculture and Natural Resources Department to reflect the bounty of Sonoma County. Founded in 1969, the department has grown to the largest community college agriculture program in California with more than 2,000 students enrolled annually.
The department includes the following program areas: Agribusiness, Animal Science, Equine Science, Environmental Conservation, Environmental Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, Veterinary Technician, Viticulture, and Wine Studies. In each program, a variety of certificates and majors are available.
Shone Farm, 365 acres of farmlands, pasture, vineyards, and riparian forest in the Russian River Valley, serves the department as an outdoor learning lab and includes a winery and equine facility. In addition to full-time instructors in each discipline, the department has a large pool of adjunct faculty who are experts in their respective fields.
At the 2010 Summer Conference of the California Agriculture Teachers Association, the department was recognized as the Outstanding Large Community College Agriculture Program and the overall state winner for Outstanding Community College Agriculture Program.
